Ultrasound Results are in - Boy or Girl?
Wednesday, April 05, 2006
Tom and I went for our ultrasound last Friday. I didn't post anything because we didn't get any decent pictures and the tech doesn't usually say anything. So, I was surprised to get a phone call from my doctor's office today as my next appointment isn't until next week. They don't usually tell you what they "think" you are having until 21 weeks, which added to the surprise of the phone call. She mentioned that she had a couple things to tell me and she went ahead and told me what they "thought" the baby was (I use the term loosely as many people lately have been having the opposite of what they were told), and then I realized that she told me this to help with the next thing she had to tell me. She wanted me to come in first thing tomorrow for an emergency checkup as I have Placenta Previa. I've heard of the term, but had to go look it up. She told me absolutely no heavy lifting and no S** for the remainder of my pregnancy. What I found out is that placenta previa is when the placenta covers the opening of the cervix instead of further up in the uterus. The danger is very heavy bleeding in the last half of pregnancy especially as the cervix begins to thin (there's a risk that the placenta will detach from the uterus). A lot of babies end up being breach because of the condition. So, because of those two factors they usually deliver the baby by C-section :( So, it will be interesting to hear what the doctor says tomorrow. There is still a chance that the placenta can move up as the baby grows. So, please pray that God will protect me and the baby and that the placenta will move to where it's supposed to be. Because of the miscarriages, I know I will start to panic if I see blood, so hopefully everything will be okay.

Oh Erin that's a wee bit scary isn't it? My girlfriend and other co-workers I know have had this condition and in all cases the placenta moved on it's own accord and all was well in the end.

I am holding onto the hope that it corrects itself. Aparently it does 90% of the time. It just so scary:(

So first off... did they say boy or girl??!!!

Previa is one of those things that make me thankful that we have ultrasounds and c-sections in our generation. (yes, shannon said thankful and c-section in the same sentance!) It can and often does travel out of the way just like Rachel said.

I know how scary it is to see bleeding. I bled off and on right into my 5th month with Brianna.

A happy and healthy pregnancy will be in my prayers. That and patience/understanding for your boys. It was hard for Wesley to constantly hear "I cannot pick you up". Patience and understanding for Tom too ;)

I think we're going to keep it a secret till the end:) Who know if they're even right. I can tell you what I do know though...heart beat at ultrasound 161, I've had one dream that it was a girl, but have thought boy from the start, I'm carrying like I did with the other two, I've been much sicker than the others but feeling really good now:) Thankfully

You mean people and your secret keeping. *humph* I guess it is to everyones happiness that I cannot keep a secret and just told :O)

161 makes me think girl. And it seems everyone is having a girl. Lots of girl powder in the water these days I think. Course Briannas heartbeat was 130-150 which is traditionally "boy" and that made me doubt every so often.

So when can I start trying to convert you to cloth diapers? I think I failed to convince Kristal. *sigh*

Consider that your try. Now your done:) he he
I'm the last person that would wash diapers.

Hey Erin,
I am Rachel's girlfriend who had placenta previa. It did move towards the end. It was my first pregnancy so I didn't really understand what it all meant. Anyway, it did move and my pregnancy carried on as normal. The only abnormal thing was that my daughter ended up being early but thankfully she was a healthy 7lbs 9oz!
